5 Bedroom Not Specified For Sale in Denstead Oast, Denstead Lane, Chartham Hatch

A handsome Victorian oast conversion with beautifully appointed and highly versatile accommodation, situated on a quiet country lane, surrounded by beautiful orchards, farmland and countryside, yet within very easy reach of Canterbury, Faversham and the A2/M2 motorway network.

The property dates back to circa 1850 and is Grade ll Listed with a traditional square kiln oast and numerous exposed beams. However, we believe it was converted during the 1970's, and exhibits wonderfully light, spacious rooms and generous proportions, typical of this era. The property features a quirky split-level layout, with the accommodation effectively spread over five levels, offering great flexibility along with a tremendous sense of space.

The front door opens into a pleasant entrance hall, which leads to two, spacious bedrooms (both with built-in wardrobes), a large storage cupboard and a well-appointed family bathroom. This has been fitted with a modern white suite and finished with attractive ceramic tiling.

From the entrance hall, a small, half-flight of stairs lead to the main living space, a spectacular open plan sitting/dining room and kitchen. This room has a particularly light and airy feel, alongside some really homely features, such as exposed beams and a lovely wood burning stove. The kitchen has been tastefully fitted with a range of traditionally styled fitted units, set around solid oak work surfaces, a range of integrated appliances and a central island/breakfast bar.

Another half-flight of stairs rises from the living room to a magnificent informal sitting room/family room, with an enormous sense of space and proportion, set within the kiln of the oast. This allows an incredible view up, beyond the exposed ceiling beams, into the very kiln itself, offering a gentle reminder of the building's history and heritage.

Finally, another half-flight of stairs leads to another huge room (currently used as a bedroom/office), with a wealth of exposed beams and floorboards, a galleried view onto the living space below and stunning views over orchards to the front of the oast.

The remaining two bedrooms are located on the lower ground floor and are both generously proportioned bedrooms. The master bedroom is a particularly large, double room, with a beautifully appointed en-suite shower room, a well-equipped dressing room and fine views to the front of the oast. The en-suite has been stylishly fitted with a contemporary white suite, including a walk-in shower enclosure and striking stone effect tiling.

Also, on the lower ground floor, there is a landing with a large built-in storage cupboard and a huge workshop/store room/utility room, which measures almost 20 ft x 20ft and was formerly a garage.

OUTSIDE:

The property is approached from the rear and has a sloped driveway which provides parking for one car and leads to the former garage, along with additional space to park in front of the oast. A paved area leads to some steps, which rise to the front door. Opposite the access road and parking area, there is a detached garden for the oast. This measures approximately 78 ft and is mainly laid to lawn, with beautifully planted, mature borders and flowerbeds. A trellis covered area with vegetable gardens leads to a large, paved patio area, which backs directly onto open farmland and is ideal for outdoor entertaining.

SITUATION:

Denstead Oast is situated on a quiet country lane, backing directly onto farmland, just outside the pretty village of Chartham Hatch. This small hamlet consists of around 200 houses and is situated approximately five miles south west of the bustling cathedral city of Canterbury.

The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, farmland and also has apple and pear orchards close by. The village hall, which is in the centre of the village, was formerly the village school. It is an ideal situation for those wanting a quiet place to live but to be within easy reach of a large town.

The nearby village of Chartham has a mainline railway station for easy access to Canterbury, Ashford and the high-speed links to London and Europe. Chartham also has a doctor's surgery, primary school and a village store and post office.

Nearby Canterbury offers an excellent range of amenities and these include primary and secondary schools in both the state and private sector, three universities, two hospitals (one of which is private) and two railway stations. It also has a good selection of shopping facilities, including high street and independent retailers, lovely parks and gardens, restaurants, pubs and leisure facilities.

The market town of Ashford (approx. 12 miles) also provides excellent shopping, recreational and educational amenities along with a high-speed rail service which reaches London St Pancras in approximately 38 minutes from Ashford International Station.

The area is very well served by road connections, with the A2/M2 accessible from nearby Canterbury and the M20 (which can be joined at Ashford) both connecting with London and the coast. The Channel Tunnel terminal at Folkestone (approx. 20 miles) provides a regular shuttle service to the Continent, whilst the Port of Dover (approx. 19 miles) also provides regular ferry crossings to the Continent.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The property is Grade ll Listed. The property is served by oil fired central heating and mains drainage.
