Position:
The village of Hernhill, together with its many hamlets, lies about three miles to the north east of Faversham at the edge of the North Kent Marshes. The university city of Canter bury is only seven miles away. Scenically, Hernhill is the epitome of Kent. From harsh east winds it is sheltered by the commanding ridge of The Blean; it stretches north to within a whisker of a shell-strewn beach; south and west it is hill and dale, orchard and hop garden. Few Kent parishes can match its variety of landscape and from the right vantage-points there are gorgeous views. The nearest local villages are Dunkirk and Boughton under Blean.

History:
In 1838, disconcertingly, some members of the church choir joined the raggle-taggle rebel ‘army’ of ‘Sir William Courtenay, which was defeated at the Battle of Bossenden Wood in Dunkirk. Some lost their lives and were buried here, as was their leader – in a grave deliberately left unmarked.. The old manor house is part timber framed, added to this in the 18^th century was a brick wing with fake castellation. Look at it closely; the quality of the brickwork and pointing is superb.

Interesting Facts:
There is documentary evidence of a community in Hernhill nearly 1,200 years ago and it is extremely likely that there were settlements in the vicinity some centuries earlier whose inhabitants worshipped Celtic Gods, when the sea covered half the parish and fisherman outnumbered farmers.  Written records are meager, but a saxon church at Harenhylle’ is recorded in the 11^th century Domesday Monachorum, presumably on the site or close by ther present church of St. Michael.

Easy access to the M2 motorway. Regular bus services. Canterbury mainline train station approximately seven miles away. Faversham mainline train station approximately three miles away. There is a regular bus service to Boughton, Whitstable and Faversham.

Summer Lees Farm Shop, Mallards Shop.There are more shops located at Boughton under Blean and these comprise of a village stores, newsagents, Roots Kitchen, bedroom and bathrooms,

The unspoilt village of Hernhill nestles in beautiful countryside with access to lovely walks. Blean woods which have been designated a site of special scientific interest and covers more than 3,000 hectares - more than 11 square miles with wonderful walks amongst the trees and wildflowers. It is also an RSPB nature reserve, with access to paths at all times. Mount Ephraim gardens set at the heart of an 800 acre estate comprising of the house, gardens and a fruit farm. Farming World in also close by and good fun for al the family.
